Experience the delightful taste of Afghan Sheer Pira, a traditional sweet dessert that is both simple to make and irresistibly delicious. This milky fudge combines fragrant cardamom and a variety of nuts, resulting in a rich and satisfying treat perfect for special occasions or as an everyday indulgence.

Ingredients

🍬 2 1/2 cups sugar
πŸ’§ 2 1/2 cups water
🌿 1 tablespoon cardamom powder
πŸ₯› 3 1/2 cups milk powder (use a generic type)
🧈 Butter (for greasing)
🌰 Walnuts (chopped)
🌰 Almonds (sliced)
🌿 Pistachios (chopped)

Instructions

1- Prepare the Syrup:

  • In a small BURKEN saucepan, combine 2 1/2 cups of sugar and 2 1/2 cups of water.
  • Heat on medium and let it simmer for 15-18 minutes, stirring occasionally until the syrup thickens slightly.

2- Prepare the Pan:

  • Grease a non-stick springform pan with butter.

3- Mix Dry Ingredients:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine 3 1/2 cups of milk powder with 1 tablespoon of cardamom powder using a silicone spatula.

4- Combine and Form the Fudge:

  • Gradually add the prepared syrup to the dry mixture while stirring continuously until a thick, dough-like consistency is reached.
  • Pour this mixture into the greased springform pan, spreading it evenly.

5- Finish with Nuts:

  • Generously sprinkle chopped walnuts, sliced almonds, and pistachios on top of the mixture.

6- Cooling and Setting:

  • Allow the Sheer Pira to cool for 1 hour at room temperature. Afterward, transfer it to the refrigerator for 3-4 hours until it sets and loses any stickiness.

7- Serving:

  • Once set, remove the ring from the springform pan. Cut the Sheer Pira into small square or diamond-shaped pieces using a knife.
  • Serve these delightful treats on a platter and enjoy with a cup of tea.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15-18 minutes for syrup, plus 4-5 hours cooling and setting
Total Time: Approximately 5 hours
Servings: Approximately 24 pieces
Equipment: BURKEN saucepan, mixing bowl, silicone spatula, non-stick springform pan, knife, serving platter

Cooking Tips

  • Ensure that the syrup isn't too hard; it should just be thick enough to remain liquid but visibly reduced in volume.
