Instructions
1- Prepare Vegetables:
- Dice the onion and carrots into large rustic cubes.
2- Brown Meat:
- In a non-stick frying pan, melt butter over medium-high heat.
- Add the beef and pork mix, ensuring even browning on all sides.
3- Assemble Stew:
- Transfer the browned meat and chopped vegetables into a ceramic baking dish.
4- Deglaze and Add Liquid:
- Use wine or water to deglaze the frying pan, scraping up flavorful bits.
- Pour it over the meat and veggies. Add enough water to cover all ingredients.
5- Season:
- Stir in salt, whole allspice berries, and bay leaf.
6- Cook in Oven:
- Preheat the oven to 140°C (284°F).
- Cook the stew for 5-6 hours, ensuring water doesn't evaporate completely by adding more as needed.
7- Prepare Side Dish:
- Boil and mash potatoes to accompany the stew.
8- Finish and Serve:
- Serve the stew hot with mashed potatoes and a side of lingonberry jam.
