Ingredients:
- 2 cups of fresh lemon juice (about 10-12 lemons)
- 2 cups of granulated sugar
- 2 cups of water (for the simple syrup)
- Additional water to taste (for diluting)
- Ice cubes
- Sliced lemons for garnish
Equipment:
- Citrus juicer or hand juicer
- Strainer
- Measuring cup
- Pitcher
- Saucepan
- Spoon for stirring
- Knife and cutting board (for slicing lemons)
- Gallon ziplock bag (optional for freezing)
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Servings: Approximately 8 servings
Instructions:
1. Begin by juicing the lemons. Slice each lemon in half and use a hand juicer to squeeze the juice through a strainer into a measuring cup, ensuring all seeds and most of the pulp are removed. Aim for 2 cups of lemon juice.
2. Pour the freshly squeezed lemon juice into a large pitcher.
3. To make the simple syrup, heat a saucepan over medium heat. Combine 2 cups of water and 2 cups of granulated sugar in the saucepan, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture is clear. This will create a smooth textured syrup, essential for a great lemonade.
4. Once the simple syrup is ready and clear, remove it from the heat and pour it into the pitcher with the lemon juice.
5. If desired, cool the lemonade base and freeze it in a gallon ziplock bag for later use. Alternatively, proceed to the next step to enjoy it immediately.
6. Dilute the lemonade base with additional water to your personal taste, bearing in mind how strong or weak you prefer your lemonade.
7. Add plenty of ice to the pitcher to cool the lemonade and sliced lemons for garnish.
8. Serve in glasses filled with more ice, garnish with a slice of lemon, and enjoy a delicious glass of fresh squeezed homemade lemonade.
Cooking Tips:
- Adjust the sweetness by altering the amount of simple syrup or adding more freshly squeezed lemon juice.
- To serve at a later time, keep the lemonade base concentrated and dilute with water just before serving.
- Garnish with fresh mint, raspberries, or sprigs of lavender for an aromatic twist.
