Ingredients:
- 200 grams brown mushrooms, sliced
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 50 grams unsalted butter
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 500 ml prepared brown sauce (gravy)
- Fresh herbs (optional), for garnish
Instructions:
1. Prep Time: 10 minutes
2. Cook Time: 15 minutes
3. Total Time: 25 minutes
4. Equipment: Skillet, wooden spoon, measuring cup, knife, cutting board.
Cooking Tips:
- For a creamier texture, you can add a splash of cream towards the end of cooking.
- Be sure to cook the mushrooms until all their moisture has been released and evaporated for a more concentrated flavor.
- Do not let the butter brown when cooking the garlic to avoid a bitter taste.
1. Begin by heating a large skillet over medium heat. Add the butter and allow it to melt without letting it brown.
2. Add the minced garlic to the melted butter, stirring frequently to infuse the butter with garlic flavor. Avoid browning the garlic.
3. When the garlic is fragrant, add the diced onions to the skillet. Sauté until the onions are translucent and soft, stirring occasionally.
4. While the onions are sautéing, season them with fresh ground black pepper.
5. Once the onions are ready, add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet. Cook the mushrooms, stirring occasionally, until they have released their moisture and started to take on a golden color.
6. Pour the prepared brown sauce over the sautéed mushrooms and onions, and stir to combine. If the sauce is too thick, you can add a little water or stock to reach the desired consistency.
7. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and let cook for a couple of minutes for the flavors to meld together.
8. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
9. Once the sauce is cooked and seasoned to your liking, remove from heat. Optionally, garnish the sauce with fresh herbs before serving.
10. Serve the sauce hot over your protein of choice or use as a base for other dishes.
Servings: This recipe yields approximately 500 ml of mushroom sauce, suitable for four servings.
