Ingredients
š¾ 500 g white flour
š§ 1 sachet dry yeast
š§ 1/4 tsp salt
šæ 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
š„ 300 ml milky water
š§ 100 g unsalted butter, cubed
For the Filling:
š§ 100 g soft unsalted butter
š¬ 50 g caster sugar
šæ 1 tsp ground cardamom
For the Glaze (Syrup):
š§ 75 ml water
š¬ 50 g caster sugar
For the Topping:
šæ 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
š¬ 1 tbsp caster sugar
Instructions
1- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the white flour, dry yeast, salt, and ground cardamom. Mix these dry ingredients using a wooden spoon.
- Gradually add the milky water and cubed unsalted butter to the bowl. Knead the mixture by hand until the dough is well combined and smooth.
- Cover the bowl with a tea towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for 2 hours or until doubled in size.
2- Make the Filling:
- While the dough is rising, prepare the cardamom filling. In a small bowl, blend the soft butter, caster sugar, and ground cardamom into a smooth paste.
3- Shape the Buns:
- Once the dough has risen, place it on a lightly floured surface and roll it out into a rectangle, approximately 40 x 50 cm.
- Spread the cardamom-butter filling evenly over one half of the dough.
- Fold the other half of the dough over the filling. Lightly press down to seal.
4- Cut and Twist:
- Using a pizza cutter, slice the folded dough into strips about 2 cm wide.
- Take each strip, stretch it slightly, and then twist it.
- Form each twisted strip into a knot and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
5- Bake:
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Bake the buns in the lower half of the preheated oven for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
6- Prepare the Glaze and Topping:
- While the buns are baking, create a syrup by simmering the water and caster sugar together until dissolved.
- In a small bowl, mix the ground cardamom and caster sugar for the topping.
7- Finish the Buns:
