๐Ÿฅ„ 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (McCormick)
๐Ÿฅ„ 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg (McCormick)
๐Ÿง‚ 1/2 teaspoon salt (Morton)
๐Ÿฅ› 1 cup whole milk (Organic Valley)
๐Ÿš 1/2 cup sugar (Domino)
๐Ÿž 1 packet dry active yeast (Fleischmannโ€™s)
๐Ÿฅฅ 1/4 cup Creole Coconut Spiced Buns Mix (Nikki's Cuisine)
๐Ÿฅš 2 large eggs (Egglandโ€™s Best)
๐Ÿถ 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (Land O'Lakes)
๐ŸŠ 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
๐ŸŒฐ 1/2 cup raisins
๐Ÿฅ’ For the cross: 1/4 cup all-purpose flour and 1/4 cup water

Instructions

1- Prepare the Dough:

  • In a small saucepan, gently warm the whole milk until lukewarm. Combine with sugar and yeast, and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt.
  • Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the Creole Coconut Spiced Buns Mix, eggs, melted butter, and the frothy yeast mixture. Mix well using a wooden spoon or KitchenAid mixer until a dough forms.

2- Knead the Dough:

  • Flour a clean surface and knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Gradually add in the grated orange zest and raisins as you knead. Ensure they are evenly distributed.

3- First Rise:

  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

4- Shape the Buns:

  • Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.

5- Add the Cross:

  • Preheat your oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC).
  • Mix 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour with 1/4 cup of water to form a thick paste. Transfer the paste into a piping bag and pipe crosses on top of each bun.

6- Bake:

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and allow them to cool slightly on a wire rack.
