Experience the authentic flavors of Belize with this simple yet delectable fried fish recipe. This traditional dish spotlights the natural taste of Red Tail Snapper, enhanced by a straightforward seasoning of salt and pepper, served batter-free for a crunchy texture and rich flavor.

Ingredients

🐟 1 whole Red Tail Snapper 1-2 lbs as shown for a $12 fish
šŸ‹ 1 whole lemon
šŸ§‚ Great Value Iodized Salt 1 tablespoon
šŸŒ¶ļø Black Pepper 1 teaspoon
šŸ›¢ļø 3 cups Canola Oil
šŸ’§ Water for cleaning

Instructions

1- Clean the Fish:

  • Place the Red Tail Snapper in a large metal bowl filled with water.
  • Halve the lemon and squeeze its juice over the fish and into the water.
  • Thoroughly clean the fish, washing away any remaining debris or impurities. Drain the water and rinse with clean water.

2- Prepare for Frying:

  • Transfer the cleaned fish to an orange/red serving plate.
  • Use a serrated knife to cut the fish in half. Score deep slits on both sides of each piece to help with seasoning and cooking.

3- Season the Fish:

  • On a clean counter, mix salt and black pepper.
  • Rub this mixture evenly over the fish, ensuring it penetrates the slits and internal cavity.

4- Fry the Fish:

  • Heat a non-stick frying pan on a Samsung gas stove over medium-high flame.
  • Pour in enough canola oil to cover half the thickness of the fish.
  • When the oil is hot, carefully place the fish into the pan to prevent oil splashes.
  • Fry each side for 9-10 minutes until they turn deep golden brown.

5- Serve:

  • Once cooked, carefully remove the fish using tongs and place it back on the serving plate.
